Pennsylvania: The Gaming Control Board Reports Revenue for May 2024

(Harrisburg).-The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of gambling and reported that the combined total revenue generated from all forms of gaming, along with fantasy contests, was $520,997,868 during May 2024.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) reported today that the combined total revenue generated from all forms of gaming, along with fantasy contests, during May 2024 was $520,997,868, an increase of 8.68% compared to revenue generated in May 2023.
Sources of gaming revenue regulated by the PGCB include slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests and video gaming terminals (VGTs). The PGCB has posted separate reports for these types of gaming on its website, https://gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov/.
Total tax revenue generated collectively through all forms of gaming and fantasy contests was $216,300,232* during May 2024.
The following chart compiles all revenue generated in May 2024 by casinos, along with fantasy contests and VGTs operated by other vendors and includes a comparison to total revenue generated in May 2023.
Slot Machine Revenue
This May’s revenue from the play of retail slot machines was $214,133,424, a 1.55% increase in revenue when compared to the $210,862,268 generated in May 2023.
The number of slot machines in operation in May 2024 was 24,862 compared to 25,495 at the casinos in May 2023.

Retail Table Games Revenue
Retail Table games revenue for May 2024 was $83,725,161, an increase of 2.54% from May 2023 when revenue was $81,648,355.Table games revenue for each of the casinos, with the percentage change reflected over the previous year, is as follows.
Total tax revenue from table games play during May 2024 was $13,837,027.
Internet Casino-Type Gaming (iGaming) Revenue
Casino games offered online generated monthly gross revenue totaling $174,089,510 during May 2024 compared to $140,971,051 in May 2023, an increase of 23.49%.
Tax revenue generated from internet gaming play during May 2024 was $76,063,660
Sports Wagering Revenue
May 2024, total sports wagering handle was $591,912,626 or 19.44% above the May 2023 total of $495,585,360.
At the same time, the taxable revenue figure for May 2024 was $44,212,853, or 7.56% higher when compared to May 2023, when taxable revenue was $41,104,590.
Video Gaming Terminals
Total adjusted revenue for May 2024 for video gaming terminals (VGTs) was $3,686,448, or 3.03% higher than May 2023 when revenue was $3,577,972. By the end of May 2024, all VGT Operators offered the maximum permitted five machines at 74 qualified truck stop establishments, compared to five machines at 68 establishments at this time last year.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of gambling involving 17 land-based casinos, online casino games, retail and online sports wagering, and Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) at qualified truck stops, along with the regulation of online fantasy sports contests.
The land-based casino industry in Pennsylvania consists of six racetrack (Category 1) casinos, five stand-alone (Category 2) casinos, two resort (Category 3) casinos and four mini-casinos (Category 4). A significant job generator in the Commonwealth, casinos and the other types of Board-regulated gaming generated $2.35 billion in tax revenue in 2023.
